From the artist’s statement:
“SLIPSTREAM grew out of rough notes for a more extensive narrative I began in 2007, documenting the passage of eighteen hours during a single day – a series of moments and the view from a 19th-century manor-house window overlooking Lake Ontario, captured each hour on the hour. Eventually, by imposing the structure and temporal nature of traditional Japanese haiku poetic form, I distilled the real and imagined journey into this poem sequence. It evolved word by word, image by image, into a contemplation of time, change, memory, absence, and acceptance.
Two years after completing the sequence, I decided to transpose Slipstream from the private page to a more public visual form, one I’ve termed a ‘textwork’, which combines language with image to present an experience that is more intricate and hopefully richer. … This artist’s bookwork is the final interpretation of Slipstream, reproducing the original text and much of the textwork in a smaller form. From manuscript to poem sequence, to textwork, to book, the words remain a study of time and transformation.”
